Capacity-building Grants overview
The specific goal of capacity-building grantmaking is to assist nonprofits in securing the professional, timely assistance they need to enhance organizational capacity and address important issues of organizational development and effectiveness.
Capacity-building grants focus on the following:
1. Mission, Vision & Strategy:
- Strategic Planning
- Organizational assessment/development
- Marketing and communications planning
2. Governance & Leadership:
- Leadership development
- Board development
- Executive transition
3. Strategic Relationships:
- Collaboration and strategic restructuring
- Positioning for merger or affiliation
- Business planning for social enterprise
4. Internal Operations:
- Human resource or volunteer management
- Financial Management
- Facility planning
5. Technology:
- Computers and other hardware and software
- Websites
- Staff training to optimize use of technology
Any Nonprofit Partnership member organization is eligible to apply.
Applicants focused on capacity building areas 1 through 4 above should be prepared to use grant funds to purchase their own capacity building leadership, activities, and resources and may use their own staff or purchase outside assistance from a consultant, facilitator, researcher, or other qualified resource. Other than for the e-marketing projects described below, applicants in these areas will complete the Capacity-building Grants pre-application questions, and, if invited following review of these preliminary materials, a five page grant application based on guidelines that will be mailed to applicants.
Applicants in the Technology area will complete The Technology Project application, and chosen finalists will participate in a collaborative technology planning process with The Nonprofit Partnership that involves a grant and a volunteer project service team.
Capacity-building Grants process and schedule
- May 15, 2009- The Nonprofit Partnership will be awarding 50% of its capacity-building grants to support innovative e-marketing projects for organizations who would like to move ahead with respect to their web presence, e-mail campaigns, social networking, online giving, online event management, and the like. All applicants requesting an e-marketing grant should download and complete the grant application below.

- June 15, 2009- All applicants requesting a Capacity-building Grant in any other area of emphasis must complete and return the pre-application questionaire (downloadable below). For The Technology Project grants, the project grant application (downloadable below) must be completed in full and submitted to The Nonprofit Partnership.
- July 17, 2009- Deadline for Capacity-building grant applications.

2009 Annual Report Contest
The Nonprofit Partnership strongly believes that organizational annual reports are a great way to showcase organizational excellence to stakeholders and the wider world. To encourage the production of high quality annual reports, we are offering $2,500 awards for the most effective reports produced by large and small organizations. 2009 Signage Sudsidy Program
First impressions count! If you would like to improve the signage on your building or property to create a fresh new look, incorporate a new program or logo, or freshen your entrance to make it more welcoming, this program may offer the help that you need. The Nonprofit Partnership will offer subsidies of 50% of the cost of sign design, production, and installation, up to a maximum of $1,250.
